Default David Fellerath is directing a film

Hello,
I have received this request from David Fellerath. You may recognize his name as he has written numerous movie reviews in the Independent Weekly. I met him through improv circles a couple of years ago, when he studied with the Transactors. Besides being a really nice guy, he is a productive writer and filmmaker. Please support his artistic project.

Dave's message:

Dear Friends and Family:

As you sit down to watch George W. Bush speak to the Republican National
Convention tonight, please keep a group of North Carolina actors and
filmmakers in your thoughts.

For the past five days we have been jostling with crowds, jawing with cops,
and hustling from Central Park to Madison Square Garden to Washington Square
Park to the Brooklyn Bridge, working on a bold film that combines
documentary and narrative techniques. Our film is a very loose, highly
abridged adaptation of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, and we are using the
characters of this play, written in the anxious years of pre-Revolutionary
Russia, to explore the role of art and protest in today's political world.

Needless to say, we've had hardly any sleep (and when we have, we've slept
on floors, couches and a rooftop), and we're on our last legs as we prepare
to shoot in midtown Manhattan during Bush's speech. We've had a phenomenal
week, however, as we've staged scenes in the middle of raucous protests,
sent our cameras hurtling through Times Square on the backs of bicycle
taxis, and participated in a historic political demonstration.

Our cast of North Carolina stage talents (Jay O'Berski, Tom Marriott, Sarah
Erickson, Bob Barr and NYC transplant Dana Marks) have been brilliant:
They've performed their intense, emotional scenes on a Queens rooftop, on
the Staten Island Ferry, and in the middle of 500,000 screaming people. Josh
Gibson, our heroic cinematographer, lugged his camera and lighting equipment
for three days and nights, muscled through Manhattan crowds and designed
shots of powerful artistry under grueling conditions.

We're down to a skeleton crew now, led by second unit cinematographer
Douglas Vuncannon, and we're heading out for a final sixteen hours of
shooting. However, we're appealing to you for help. We arrived here hoping
to shoot this for $8,000 but we've run over-budget by about $1,500. We will
finish shooting this film, but we'll have some bills to pay when we get
home. Any contribution you can make, large or small, will help us
tremendously and will be gratefully acknowledged in the film's credits.

If you're able to help us, please send a check to David Fellerath, c/o
Southern Twilight, LLC, 817 Nancy St, Durham, NC 27701. If you don't have a
checkbook or stamp handy, please let me know and I will follow up once I am
back in North Carolina. If you would like more information about the
project, please call me next week at (919) 260-0245 or write
dfellerath@nc.rr.com <mailto:dfellerath@nc.rr.com>. (Please use this link
rather than hitting the "reply" button, as I am writing this from my
sister's office in lower Manhattan.)

Initially, our aim was to edit this film in time for a pre-election
screening. Due to the wealth and complexity of the material, however, that
deadline will likely not be met. However, it is our hope to have a finished
film in time to celebrate the inauguration of a new President in the White
House in January.

Thanks, and please forward this message!

Sincerely,
David Fellerath (and approximately 25 cast and crew members)

Everyone and their mom is making a film about the RNC, Bush, Fox, etc. but this one will be differrent.

I know both David and the Cinematographer, Josh Gibson. They are both extremely talented and just crazy enough to pull this off. I have no doubt this project will transcend the details of the event itself and offer something new and surprising and visually audacious.

If you have the means to support this project in anyway, I promise that you will be proud to be a part of this film.

Can't wait to see it.
