Orange Health County Department is collaborating with several other
County agencies on Tuesday, August 10th to conduct a Mass Medication
Distribution exercise from 10 AM-2PM. Your help is needed as a
volunteer roleplayer in this exercise. In return, you will get a free
lunch and a great opportunity to witness public health in action!!!

This exercise tests the collaborative ability of the County to respond
to a simulated bioterrorist attack. The County is simulating mass
antibiotic dispensing to those potentially exposed to a communicable
disease outbreak resulting from the attack. We are recruiting you to
join a diverse roleplayer group proceeding through a mass medication
dispensing site at Culbreth Middle School in Chapel Hill. Volunteers
will be screened at a nearby screening area for signs of symptoms and
exposure and then transported by bus to Culbreth for simulated
medication dispensing.

This exercise will take place from 10 AM to 2 PM on August 10, 2004.
While we need you to commit to this four-hour timeframe, we do not
expect the exercise to last longer than 1 to 2 hours.
For those with transportation needs, we will assist you in finding
transportation via Chapel Hill Transit or other alternate forms of
public transportation in Orange County. Participants will report to the
Jones Ferry Rd. Park & Ride lot in staggered arrival times of 10 AM, 11
AM, and 12 PM. There you will receive your player information card, be
checked in at the screening station, and then be bused to one of two
locations at Culbreth Middle School. Following exercise participation,
lunch will be provided for all participants.

Volunteers will receive instruction on being an exercise role-player at
basic informational sessions to be held late July at Southern Human
Services Center on Homestead Road in Chapel Hill (directions below).
Please review the dates and times of the informational sessions below
and send a reply indicating which one you will be attending.

Saturday, July 31, 2004, 11 AM to 1 PM

If you cannot attend, please indicate in a reply message so that an
instruction sheet can be sent to you with the details from the
informational sessions. You are welcome to bring children to participate
as roleplayers, under the condition that they remain supervised
throughout their time at the screening and dispensing sites. All
exercise participants will have to complete and sign a participant
registration form to be a part of this exercise. Thank you and please
contact me with any questions.

I did one of these once, and the squad not only arrived ten minutes after the first bomb exploded, but then they opened the front door, completely ignoring the bomb attached to it (which exploded) and then while carrying me (with my role-played "severely-injured spine") out on a stretcher, they joked about stealing my wallet and nearly dropped me twice.

PS: I'm just saying.
